I currently enjoy living in Salem Township just west of Plymouth, Michigan.  I am the proud father of 4 beautiful daughters taking their place in the world in positive ways.  I taught mathematics for 30+ years at Novi High School.  I coached high school basketball for 20+ years in the Novi and South Lyon school districts. I have raced sailboats for 30+ years.

I’ve successfully trained dogs for family and friends for 30+ years. I have been a trainer for Dog Academy for 2+ years.  And of course, I walk and hike daily with my off-leash dog, Riley.  In the neighborhood, I’m known as the guy with the black dog.  I get stopped frequently to be asked how I do it.  To their eyes, I don’t appear to be doing anything.  They see an attentive and engaged dog that returns to my side in the face of any distractions.  I’m confident that I can help you!

About Me

A Few Things I Think About:

  1. You must care about your pup!

  2. Your pup has gifts, talents and skills. Polish and refine them!

  3. It's a season of you and your pup's life. Make memories!

How do you cultivate your dog's innate potential?

  • Where are you at?

  • What is the ceiling?

  • What actions do you need to take?

    • Paint: Add things that work!

    • Sculpt: Remove/Avoid things that don’t work!

What’s your current training grade?

A.  I have a deep level of understanding allowing me to adapt and create new strategies for unique situations.

B. I can choose from various drills and techniques at various times to efficiently perform at a high level.

C. I’m falling into bad habits and routines.  Being less consistent and diligent.

D. I’m doing some things right, but also doing some things wrong.

E. I’m lost, stressed, and confused.
